The Plurality of Structure is a solo exhibition of sculptural works by Bethany Cordero, on view at Ignition Project Space, 3839 W Grand Ave, Chicago, from May 1–25, 2025. An opening reception will be held on Friday, May 1st from 6–9 PM.
The work in this exhibition engages material process as a mode of thinking through impermanence, time, and the malleability of identity. Working in steel, bronze, clay, and textiles, the sculptures are shaped through casting, welding, weaving, and forming, processes that leave behind seams, scars, and residues treated as integral to the work rather than incidental to it. Each material carries its own memory: heat alters metal, clay records gesture, fibers bound and wrapped form structure. Taken together, the works approach sculpture as a site of transition holding moments of resolution, but never fixed or final.
